Tunji Wusu –

16 out of the 19 commissioner nominees were inaugurated over the weekend by Abia State Governor Alex Otti.
Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo and Prof. Monica Ironkwe, the first female commissioners for agriculture and health, respectively, were among those who were inaugurated.

The oaths of office were also delivered at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Umuahia, the state capital, by Uzoamaka Uche Ikonne, a female state solicitor general and permanent secretary of the ministry of justice.

Speaking to the incoming commissioners, Otti emphasized that creating a new Abia and a dedication to a functioning society that future generations would value are important goals of his government.

He continued by saying that the foundation of his administration is the growth of vital infrastructure, including the health and agricultural sectors, among others. He therefore informed the commissioners that because of the magnitude of their duties, lame justifications and corruption would not be accepted.

The state attorney general assured the governor that the new commissioners would work hard to live up to his expectations.
“We are aware that Abians have very high expectations, but we will work hard to meet them,” he stated.
