A bomb blast suspected to be an airstrike hit a community in Nasarawa’s Doma Local Government Area on Wednesday, killing at least 40 people.

The blast THE PREMIER NEWS gathered was aimed at people suspected of being bandits who have terrorized residents in Nasarawa and Benue states’ border areas.

It was unclear whether the blast was carried out by military forces at the time of filing the report, but sources said it was not unrelated to the perceived act of terrorism between the Benue and Nasarawa borders.

Yakubu Lawal, the state Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, confirmed the incident when contacted.
He stated that the state government was aware of the blast and that the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, had visited the last area to investigate the incident.

The Commissioner, who declined to confirm the number of casualties, urged residents in the state, particularly those in Doma and neighboring villages, to remain calm because the government was doing everything it could to get to the bottom of the problem.

Yes, there was a blast near the Nasarawa-Benue state border, which is suspected to be an air strike. For the time being, it is unclear whether the blast was caused by the military or by surveillance from a military operation.

“The deputy governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, was deployed to the area; there were casualties but I cannot confirm because it is still undisclosed for the time being; the deputy will brief the governor when he returns,” he said.

Also confirming the blast, DSP Nansel Ramham, Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Nasarawa State Command, said there was an air strike, but he couldn’t say whether military forces were involved.

“We are aware there was an air strike around the Nasarawa, Benue border today, but what we are not sure is whether it was military forces or from other sources.
The incident has also been confirmed by the state government. “The number of casualties has not been determined,” said the PPRO.

It should be remembered that on Monday, over six schoolchildren were kidnapped by suspected bandits in Nasarawa state’s Doma Local Government Area, with only two of them rescued.
