The Deputy National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okechukwu Osuoha, has called on Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to demonstrate loyalty to the party and prioritize peace as he returns to office following the end of the six-month emergency rule.

Osuoha stressed that Fubara’s resumption should be guided by accountability, unity, and renewed commitment to the PDP, noting that the governor has a responsibility to rebuild trust and stability in the state.

He explained that Fubara’s suspension was tied to the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu in March. With no extension granted, the governor is now constitutionally bound to retake his position.

“The suspension was for six months, and since there has been no extension, he must resume his role as executive governor of Rivers State,” Osuoha stated.

While acknowledging the debates over the legality of suspending an elected governor, Osuoha urged Fubara to use his return as an opportunity for reconciliation. He advised the governor to foster cordial ties with the state legislature, mend fences with political benefactors, and place the state’s development above personal differences.

“Rivers has suffered a lot. There must be peace and unity so development can take root,” he said.

Reiterating the supremacy of the PDP, Osuoha encouraged Fubara to actively participate in party affairs, insisting that his political future depends on alignment with the party.

“He is still a PDP member and should show it clearly. Party is supreme—if he has challenges, the party will support him. Nigerians must see him fully committed to the PDP,” Osuoha added.
