On May 30, six young pregnant women were saved by the Rivers State Police Command during a raid on an illicit child trafficking facility in the state’s Aliu district.
The women, who ranged in age from 20 to 23, were allegedly being held inside the center by a syndicate who intended to sell the infants after birth while they were in various stages of pregnancy.
Akudo Azoroh, the center’s proprietor, and another person were detained during the operation, according to a statement from the police.
When she was paraded on May 31, Azoroh said that she typically gave the babies to families without children. She also said that the pregnant girls came to her center intending to be paid N800k or N900k depending on the stage of pregnancy and the gender of the baby.
“In the past, I’ve distributed six kids. I launched the company three years ago. The lads I have don’t make the girls pregnant.
