Two people who were in possession of 468 Permanent Voter Cards were detained by the police.

Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission, said this in a statement on Sunday.

The perpetrators, Nasiru Idris and another (name withheld), were apprehended in Sokoto State and Kano State, respectively, with 101 and 367 PVCs, respectively, according to the statement.

According to Okoye, their behavior violated Sections 117 and 145 of the Electoral Act of 2022.

The statement further mentioned that the perpetrators were currently being punished as required.

Critics are told by Fani-Kayode that only God can kill Tinubu.

The following was stated in the statement: “In the past few weeks, the Nigeria Police has detained a number of people who were discovered to be in several States of the Federation’s illegal possession of voter registration cards.

“In one instance, the Police completed their inquiries and turned over the case file to the Commission, which led to the successful prosecution of one Nasiru Idris at a Sokoto magistrate court after it was discovered that he was in possession of 101 PVCs in violation of Sections 117 and 145 of the Electoral Act 2022. He was given a one-year jail term.

The police in Kano State also detained a man after discovering 367 PVCs in his hands. The Commission is pursuing the suspect’s prosecution after charging him in court.

The Commission wants to reaffirm that it would continue to seek and ensure the careful prosecution of all Electoral Act violations.

The commissioner provided an update on the PVC collection and stated, “Following the expiration of the statutory period for the publication of the register of voters for claims and objections, the Commission is determined to make the collecting of PVCs as frictionless as feasible.

December 3 will feature the Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu table tennis final.

“We’ve created a standard operating procedure. This will be one of the topics reviewed and resolved at a retreat that will be held in Lagos from November 28 through December 2, 2022, with participation from all Resident Electoral Commissioners.

“At the conclusion of the retreat, the Commission will announce the dates and the specific steps for the nationwide urgent collection of PVCs.

The Commission is grateful to Nigerians for their patience and understanding, especially those who registered to vote or requested transfers or replacements of their identification cards between January and July 2022. The Commission works to make sure everything goes well while making the cards available for collecting.
