Babatunji Wusu –

In response to the public’s outcry over President Bola Tinubu’s 1,411 delegation to the COP28 Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the Presidency has taken action.

The list of Nigerian delegates to the Climate Change summit has incited public uproar, with many Nigerians taking to social media to question why certain names were included on the alleged list.

Dada Olusegun, the presidential assistant, responded to the outcry on Sunday by writing on his X handle that the summit is open to all civil servants and government personnel.

According to Olusegun, the United Nations (UN) asked a number of these organizations and members of the private sector to submit a list of their representatives, the majority of whom were to be supported by the European Union, World Bank, and other organizations.

According to the presidential adviser, the federal government is solely in charge of providing food for the members of its immediate staff, which makes up a relatively small percentage of all the delegates.

While there may be concerns about the people on the delegate list, he pointed out that President Tinubu is not insensitive enough to permit such waste at this time when he is spearheading the effort to reduce unnecessary spending.

He wrote: Government officials are not the only ones who may benefit from the Climate Change Summit. These belong to the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Council on Climate Change, NSIAs, NGOs, and several other organizations.

The majority of these delegates were to be sponsored by the World Bank, European Union, and other organizations, according to a request made by the UN to several of these organizations for a list of their delegates.

“A number of individuals in the private sector, such as Tony Elumelu and Alhaji Aliko Dangote, were also included in this request.

The list has never included more than a small percentage of Nigerian government officials because the organizers have required the representation of numerous other groups.

The delegation list of Nigeria is cohesive and consists of both government and non-government officials. This implies that every name under Nigeria, regardless of whether it comes from a Ministry, Nonprofit, the Private Sector, Parastals, or the “President’s delegation,” is categorized as “Nigeria’s Delegation.”

Foreign organizations are able to sponsor Nigerian individuals since they would cover their costs as well.

“Hundreds of panels organized by various ministries, the commercial sector, academics, and CSOs have taken place in the Nigerian Pavilion at COP 28.

“Ministers invited to the summit MUST take part in the schedule-divided program at various points throughout the meeting.

“FG is only in charge of providing food for the people who work directly for it, which makes up a relatively small percentage of all the delegates.

“Although some NGOs may have reservations about the nominees, it’s important to realize that President Tinubu is not insensitive enough to permit such waste at this particular moment when he’s spearheading the effort to reduce unnecessary spending on foreign exchange and subsidies that directly affect the people.

As the event draws to a close, we hope to document further benefits. We will see President Tinubu’s success!”The Federal Republic of Nigeria is blessed by God.
