The Ligue 1 team posted on its website on Saturday that Lionel Messi will be departing Paris Saint-Germain at the conclusion of the current campaign.
“At the conclusion of the 2022–23 fiscal year, Leo Messi and Paris Saint-Germain’s journey in the capital will come to an end. The Club would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, who also won two French championships and the Champions Trophy while wearing the Red and Blue.
In the nearly two years since joining PSG on a free transfer from Barcelona, Messi has scored 32 goals and made 35 assists for the Parisiens. For the squad this season across all competitions, he has scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists.
“I’d want to thank the club, Paris, and its people for these two years. I’m hoping for the best for them in the future,” remarked Messi.
Christophe Galtier, the club’s head coach, previously announced Messi’s departure from PSG earlier this month.
“I had the honor of mentoring the greatest football player in history. Galtier had told reporters, “This will be his final game at the Parc des Princes, and I hope that he will receive the greatest of welcomes.
He has contributed significantly to the team this year and has always been available. None of the remarks or criticisms, in my opinion, are warranted. He has consistently stood with the team. It has been an enormous honor to travel with him all season.
“I would like to thank Leo Messi for his two seasons in Paris,” said Nasser Al Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain. “Seeing a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in Rouge & Bleu and at the Parc des Princes, winning two consecutive French championships and inspiring our young players has been a pleasure.” We wish Leo and his family the best luck in the future and cannot overstate his contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1.
