Babatunji Wusu –
The Kaduna State Emergency Management Authority (KADSEMA) announced that it will begin certifying and recertifying commercial buildings in fire safety as one of its initiatives to guarantee the protection of the populace in public areas.
Community safety and security are of utmost importance to SEMA, according to the agency’s executive secretary, Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, who made this announcement on Monday during a press briefing, in keeping with Governor Uba Sani’s “sustain agenda.”
He added that more than 10,000 commercial locations throughout the state have been identified using a special digital identity system.
Mazadu stated that new data shows how urgent it is to take preventative action, noting that the number of fire-related events in Kaduna State alone has alarmingly increased, having an effect on both communities and businesses. According to his findings, a considerable proportion of these catastrophes could have been avoided if fire safety procedures had been strictly followed and certificates had been updated.
He stated that the communities’ safety and security come first. Our goal in starting this project is to strengthen our state’s defenses against fire dangers by making sure that safety rules and procedures are strictly followed. Our main goals are to reduce the danger of fire, improve emergency preparedness, and encourage a culture of safety and compliance in businesses,” he stated.
“KADSEMA is still dedicated to protecting the people’s lives and property. Aligned with this dedication, we present an all-encompassing program centered on Fire Safety Certificate Renewal and Prevention Inspection for commercial buildings in Kaduna State.
The Fire Safety Department is moving toward a digital workflow in order to guarantee effectiveness and optimize operations. Demand notices will only be sent digitally and printed on the Fire Safety Department’s official color letterhead to business locations going forward. Businesses must only acknowledge and react to notices in this style, the speaker stated.
