Hon. Comrade Chinedu Ogah (OON), the member of the National Assembly representing the Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, threatened yesterday to file a lawsuit against the West African Examination Council (WAEC) over the seizure of some exam results that belonged to Ebonyi nationals living abroad.

The member of the House of Representatives who objected to the development urged Mallam Adamu Adamu, minister of education, to penalize WAEC for what they claim is the Council’s departure from its administrative mandate.

Ogah revealed this in a statement and questioned why students from Ebonyi State would be forced to experience this hardship after signing up for and taking the WAEC exam alongside students from other States of the Federation.

He continued by saying that if the development did not receive the attention it needs, it might cause youth restlessness and the spread of other social vices among young people in the State.

He stated, “I want to urge the West African Examination Council, WAEC, to promptly release the remaining portion of the results belonging to natives of Ebonyi State.

Part of the statement read, “I urge WAEC to withdraw the N500,000 sanction imposed on the affected schools as there is no proof that any form of malpractice was committed by the schools.

“WAEC has examination supervisors, invigilators, and general supervisors who supervise the examination while it is being administered. These people never call off the examination when it is scheduled.

What justifies releasing some WAEC results while holding back others? Because the remaining topics are crucial, we want the portion WAEC is withholding to be made public.

“I have spoken to my attorneys about taking legal action against WAEC if it doesn’t reverse its decision.

“We want to ask the Minister of Education to request that WAEC show proof of paying the Education Tax to the Federal Government and demonstrate how it has implemented the Federal Character Policy in its administrative activities.

“WAEC is required to provide proof of federal tax payments, as the government typically receives billions of naira annually from the administration of various exams.

“I urge the Minister of Education to impose sanctions against WAEC for flouting its authority.”
