The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Dr. Nnanna Uzor-Kalu as Commissioner representing the South East in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), following the adoption of a report by its Committee on Establishment and Public Service.
Dr. Uzor-Kalu was among twelve nominees presented to the Senate While the others were confirmed, his nomination was stepped down after a petition was submitted against him. The petition was subsequently referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions for investigation.
Presenting the report on Tuesday, Chairman of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Senator Oluwale Fanayi Cyril (Ekiti North), said the petition lacked merit and that the nominee had fulfilled all constitutional and professional requirements.
The Senate, sitting as a Committee of the Whole, considered the committee’s report clause by clause before approving the nomination.
The confirmation marks the end of a prolonged process and underscores the Senate’s commitment to due process, fairness, and institutional integrity.
