The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has approved the immediate payment of March salaries for civil servants ahead of the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

In a statement issued by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Government House in Sokoto, the payment is scheduled to commence on Friday, March 13, 2026.

According to the statement, the salary payment will cover workers in the state civil service, staff of local government councils, employees of the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), as well as pensioners across the state.

Governor Aliyu urged civil servants to reciprocate the gesture by demonstrating dedication and commitment to their duties. He called on workers to remain punctual, hardworking, and sincere in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The governor explained that the call was necessary considering the critical role civil servants play in the implementation of his administration’s Nine-Point Smart Innovative Agenda, which is aimed at promoting development and prosperity across Sokoto State.

The statement further noted that since assuming office, the current administration has prioritised the prompt payment of salaries, the settlement of inherited gratuity backlogs, and the timely payment of pensions.

It also highlighted the reintroduction of monthly imprest to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and the creation of an enabling environment to strengthen the state’s civil service system.

Governor Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a more vibrant and efficient workforce through the training and retraining of civil servants and the provision of necessary working tools for government institutions.

He disclosed that the state government recently recruited 3,000 workers who will be deployed to various MDAs to improve productivity and ensure an effective division of labour within the public sector.

According to him, the recruitment exercise has also contributed to reducing unemployment in the state.

The governor further urged experienced civil servants to mentor the newly recruited staff by sharing their knowledge and professional experience to strengthen the civil service and improve service delivery.

He called on workers across the state to continue supporting his administration in delivering on its campaign promises under the Nine-Point Smart Innovative Agenda.
