Tajudeen Abbas was elected Speaker of the Tenth House of Representatives.
He received 353 votes and so won the Speakership election.
The other candidates, former Deputy Speaker Idris Wase and Sani Jaji, each received three votes.
Mr Abbas is the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate. He represents Kaduna State’s Zaria Federal Constituency in northwestern Nigeria.
The current Speaker was elected to the House for the first time in 2011. He takes over for Femi Gbajabiamila.
