Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, said that he complained in writing to the PDP’s leadership about anti-party activities carried out by certain of the party’s members in the state against his bid for reelection.
After a private meeting with the five governors of the PDP Integrity Group, also known as the PDP-G5, on Wednesday in Bauchi, Mr. Mohammed provided the clarifications.
Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State met behind closed doors with Mr. Mohammed.
As a devoted party supporter, I felt betrayed, so I wrote to ask for retribution, he explained.
He added, “That was why the party called me to discuss with its presidential flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Abuja. He said the letter was written with complete honesty, sincerity, and a great feeling of loyalty.
The letter I sent was not only written by me; it was also written by the PDP family in Bauchi State and the administration of Bauchi State, which is why I was there, he added. “We discussed extensively and I have gotten some clarifications,” he said.
Governor Samuel Ortom also spoke and provided additional clarifications over the purported declaration that “he would never support a Fulani man to become the president of Nigeria.”
However, he expressed regret to anyone who may have taken offense at his statements.
“I want to clarify that; when I was recorded saying that, that was not what I meant. However, I am aware that it will be a logical error.
I want to say, to those who are offended by my statements, that I didn’t mean that if people took it the way I did. I apologize for that, he said.
Mr. Wike noted that the PDP and the G5 governors have never closed the door to discussion and reconciliation.
“Equity, fairness, and justice are what we’re asking for, and that’s what the PDP stands for.
“We’ve never shut the door, and we won’t shut the door either. All we’re asking is that you do what’s right be done,” he said.
