Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has presented cheques for undisclosed sums of money to the families of slain officials ambushed and killed by bandits in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State.
He also stated that the offers were approved by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and that each of the families of the seven slain personnel received one job opportunity.
Audi told officers and men, as well as bereaved families, at the NSCDC Kaduna Command Headquarters that the Corps had lost officers in the line of duty in the past, but not as many as in the Kaduna incident.
He called the killing “colossal,” but urged other personnel not to be deterred by it.
The NSCDC chief stated that they should continue to do their best for a more secure country.
“While death is unavoidable, losing personnel is heartbreaking.
“Although this isn’t the first time we’ve lost personnel, it’s so painful that we lost seven at once.
“It is a great loss, which is why I am here personally to encourage all of you to keep doing your best and not giving up,” he said.
Olusola Odumosu, the Service’s Public Relations Officer, hinted in a statement that he had begun the process of paying death benefits and other entitlements to the affected officers through the Minister’s office.
He stated that the Corps had been paying burial benefits, entitlements, accident and group life insurance policies to personnel as and when they became due.
