Popular Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has challenged the widely held belief that money alone can cure depression, arguing that wealth does not automatically guarantee happiness.

The actor made the remark while reacting to a viral post on X which suggested that financial success is the solution to emotional struggles.

“You’re not depressed, you need 20 million naira,” an X user wrote in the now-trending post.

Responding to the claim, Egbuson cautioned against reducing mental health issues to financial hardship alone.

“It’s not always about money sha,” he wrote.

His reaction triggered widespread debate online, with many social media users reflecting on the deeper causes of depression beyond poverty and economic pressure.

Several commenters agreed that while financial stability can ease stress, money cannot heal emotional trauma linked to grief, anxiety, loneliness, or the loss of loved ones.

Others, however, argued that financial hardship remains one of the biggest triggers of depression, insisting that many people battling emotional distress would experience relief if their economic conditions improved.

The conversation has since reignited discussions around mental health awareness and the complex relationship between wealth, happiness, and emotional wellbeing.
