President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a major leadership transition in Nigeria’s examination system.
Aina will assume office following the completion of the two-term tenure of current Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose term expires on July 31, 2026.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Aina brings a strong academic and technical background, with deep expertise in digital systems, examination processes and institutional reform.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina previously began his professional journey with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early experience in admissions systems and data-driven administration.
The statement added that he is a member of several professional bodies, including COREN, NSE, IEEE and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), underscoring his profile as a systems-focused academic.
