President Bola Tinubu has officially named Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending weeks of speculation over a possible change to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket. The Tinubu Shettima ticket is now set to continue into the next election cycle.
In recent weeks, political discussions suggested that the President might choose a different vice-presidential candidate as part of preparations for the 2027 poll. The rumours gained attention after some APC stakeholders, including members from the North-East, did not publicly endorse Shettima.
Some political observers also speculated that President Tinubu could select a northern Christian as his running mate. However, the latest development has brought those claims to an end, with arrangements completed for the formal announcement of Shettima’s nomination.
The confirmation came from the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, in a post on X. He stated: “About now, at the Continental Hotel, Abuja, President Tinubu submits INEC nomination form to the APC NWC as Sole Presidential Candidate for the 2027 Elections.
“President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has equally tapped Kashim Shettima, the current Vice President, Senator, as his running mate for vice president in the 2027 election.”
The announcement confirms that the Tinubu Shettima ticket will remain unchanged as the APC prepares for the 2027 presidential election. It also puts an end to uncertainty over the party’s vice-presidential choice and signals continuity in the party’s leadership plans ahead of the campaign.
Do you think retaining the same presidential ticket will strengthen the APC’s chances in the 2027 election?
