President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the hierarchy of the Nigerian Armed Forces, replacing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and appointing new Service Chiefs in what the Presidency described as a move to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff.

The statement, titled “Tinubu Changes Service Chiefs”, announced other appointments as follows: Major-General W. Shaibu is the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshall S.K. Aneke becomes the Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

Dare said the changes were made “in furtherance of the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen the national security architecture.”

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” commending their contributions to national security during their tenure.

He also charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to “justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define Nigeria’s Armed Forces.”

All appointments take immediate effect
