Washington, D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed his dissatisfaction with the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new supreme leader.
Speaking on Fox News on Monday, Trump said he was “not happy” with the appointment, which follows the death of Iran’s former supreme leader, his father. Iranian state television reported on Sunday that Mojtaba Khamenei had been chosen to succeed him.
Trump also commented on regional security, highlighting Iran’s history of targeting countries in the Middle East with missiles. He claimed recent U.S. military actions had shifted the regional balance, significantly weakening Tehran’s capabilities.
“Ships should not fear crossing the Strait of Hormuz despite rising tensions in the region,” Trump said, emphasizing that the United States had dealt Iran a severe blow.
The former Republican president’s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of Iran’s leadership and the potential implications for Middle East stability.
