Trump Secretly Switched Planes After Iran Threat

President Donald Trump secretly switched aircraft before leaving Ankara after US intelligence detected a credible threat against the plane he was expected to board.

The incident happened shortly before Air Force One departed Turkey following last month’s NATO summit. According to a US official with direct knowledge, Trump left the presidential aircraft and was taken to another US government plane using an airport catering truck.

The operation followed intelligence indicating that Iran and allied proxies could target the aircraft with a missile as Trump left Ankara. The president had previously acknowledged the danger, describing himself as Iran’s “number one target” during the NATO summit.

Trump had earlier announced that he would use the older Air Force One for the journey, saying it was “for old time’s sake.” However, the Secret Service had advised him to use the older aircraft because of security concerns.

Footage showed Trump boarding the aircraft before a catering truck moved alongside the plane. Minutes later, the truck drove towards another US government aircraft, reportedly an Air Force C-32A, where Trump continued his journey to a refuelling stop in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, journalists and some White House staff travelled aboard the older Air Force One and believed Trump was on the same aircraft. Reporters were also instructed to keep the cabin window shades closed during the flight.

Trump later transferred to the newer presidential aircraft in the UK before continuing to Washington, DC.

The White House has not publicly confirmed that the aircraft carrying the press served as a decoy. Administration officials have expressed concern that the disclosure of classified security procedures could affect future presidential protection operations.
