The Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Trade Union Congress (TUC) has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take action to reduce the growing cost of living brought on by the elimination of gasoline subsidies.
The TUC lamented the status of the economy, which it claimed was having a detrimental effect on all facets of national development, in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of its two-day workshop with the theme: “21st Century Trade Unionism: Laws, Conventions and International Best Practices.”

Gbenga Ekundayo, the chairman of the Lagos TUC Council, and Abiodun Aladetan, the secretary, both signed the statement.

They declared: “Underprivileged workers are now suffocating.”

The union bemoaned the lack of distribution of the N5 billion that the federal government granted states as palliatives.

As it did with transportation costs, it advised the government to cut back on the amount of workdays, saying it might take the form of a shift system or a work-from-home arrangement.
