A law firm, Banwo & Ighodalo, has questioned the July 10, 2019 legal advice issued by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions in respect of an alleged defilement case involving undergraduates of the University of Lagos.

The defendants in the case, which is presently before the Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja, are Omowole Simeon, Chukwu Edmund, Peace Nwakama, Aguedo Ekene and Osemeka Ijeoma.

The defendants were alleged to have in January 2017, on UNILAG campus, Akoka, Lagos, defiled a then 17-year-old fellow female undergraduate “by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.”

In the charge marked LD/7470C/2018, the Lagos DPP said the defendants acted contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law Ch C17, Vol 3 Laws of Lagos State 2015.

But Banwo & Ighodalo, which is representing the second defendant, Edmund, in court, wrote a January 16, 2020 letter to the Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), alleging abuse of legal processes by the DPP and demanding a review of the legal advice.
