Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has applauded Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku on making history as the first indigene of the state to be elected Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Adiuku clinched the position in a bye-election held Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in Kano by the NUJ’s National Executive Council (NEC) to fill the vacant South East (Zone C) slot. He emerged unopposed after unanimous nomination and endorsement by South East delegates.

The seat had remained vacant since the NUJ Triennial Delegates Conference in Owerri last year, where other contenders were disqualified. Prior to his elevation, Adiuku served as the South East Zonal Secretary of the NUJ.

Governor Uzodimma, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, praised the milestone as a testament to Imo’s growing influence in national journalism. He commended the trust reposed in Adiuku by colleagues across the region and the country, urging him to leave a legacy of service and integrity.

> “Go and do Imo proud in the office you have been elected. Be exemplary in your thoughts, acts and actions, and posterity will be kind to you,” the governor charged.

Uzodimma assured Adiuku of his administration’s readiness to partner with the NUJ on welfare, professional growth, and collaboration with government and development partners. He urged him to be magnanimous in victory, carrying along all colleagues in the South East.

By his election, Adiuku will oversee activities of journalists in Zone C and represent their interests at the national decision-making level of the NUJ.

An alumnus of the University of Calabar and the International Institute of Journalism, Adiuku is also the editor of the Independent Voice Online Newspaper.
