President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa.
Willie Bassey, Director of Information in the SGF’s office, who leaked the information to journalists, stated that Bawa’s suspension was to allow security officers to conduct a proper investigation into his activities while in office.
Since his appointment as EFCC chief, Bawa has faced numerous claims.
Former Zamfara State governor, Bello Matawalle, recently accused Bawa of demanding $ 2 million in bribes from him.
Bawa has so far disputed the charge, stating through EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren that the former governor should produce evidence to back up his allegations.
Mr. Uwujaren stated that the commission will not get involved in a scuffle with a suspect under investigation for corruption and unconscionable pillage of his state’s resources.
Bawa has been accused of misusing his position, which he should have respected and protected.
Mr Bawa, on the other hand, has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations of the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission until the investigation is completed.
