Nigerian singer and producer John Saviours Udomboso, widely known as Young John, has pushed back against critics who claim his sound is “monotonous,” insisting that his rise in the industry is the product of years of deliberate work and refinement.
The award-winning hitmaker, who transitioned from production to full-time singing, told detractors to stop devaluing his efforts. In a post on X, Young John urged those who dislike his music to simply move on rather than tear it down.
“If you’re not a fan of my work, leave it at that! Don’t come here and water down my years of hard work!” he wrote.
Young John launched his music journey in 2010 as a producer and cemented his reputation through his affiliation with Olamide’s YBNL label. His switch to singing followed his 2022 recording deal with Chocolate City—a move that produced Dada, a viral single whose remix with Davido further skyrocketed his profile.
Despite the recent criticism, Young John maintains that his evolution in sound remains intentional, shaped by over a decade of industry experience and persistence.
