  • Labour unions in Zamfara have urged workers to refrain from joining the planned strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The Zamfara State Government has confirmed that the payment of the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage to civil servants will begin in March 2025. This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and the organized labour on the implementation of the wage increase.

The government emphasized that payments would start after a verification exercise for workers is completed. In light of the NLC’s recent announcement that Zamfara is one of 12 states facing industrial action over delays in implementing the new wage, labour representatives in the state have called on workers to avoid participating in the planned strike. The strike is a response to the failure of some state governments to implement the federal government’s newly approved minimum wage.
