By Eppe Franklyne| Alexander Zverev kept his dream of winning a first Grand Slam title alive after overcoming Jakub Mensik to secure a place in the French Open final on Friday.

The German star delivered a strong performance to defeat the 26th-seeded Czech 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 on Court Philippe Chatrier. The victory sends Alexander Zverev into his second French Open final and gives him another opportunity to claim the major title that has so far slipped through his grasp.

The opening set remained evenly balanced until the closing stages when Zverev produced a brilliant backhand winner to create a crucial break point. He capitalised moments later as Mensik sent a return into the net, allowing the world number three to edge ahead before sealing the set with a powerful ace.

With momentum on his side, Alexander Zverev took firm control in the second set. He secured an early break and continued to apply pressure as Mensik struggled to match the German’s consistency during his maiden Grand Slam semi-final appearance. Zverev claimed a double break and comfortably moved into a two-set lead.

Mensik fought back admirably after receiving treatment for a neck problem. The 20-year-old combined his powerful serve with well-executed drop shots to earn a break and take the third set, raising hopes of a comeback.

However, Alexander Zverev responded in impressive fashion. The German quickly regained his rhythm in the fourth set, controlling rallies and limiting errors as he closed out the contest to reach another French Open final.

He will now face Italy’s Fabio Cobolli, who progressed to the championship match after Matteo Arnaldi withdrew from their semi-final due to a viral infection.

After several near misses on tennis’ biggest stages, Alexander Zverev is now just one victory away from finally capturing his long-awaited Grand Slam crown.
