Nigerian music star Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has announced plans to inscribe a tribal mark on his face when he turns 50, as a tribute to his father.
The 45-year-old singer made the revelation in a recent TikTok video, saying the decision stems from deep cultural pride and filial respect.
“By the time I’m 50, I will get the same mark as my dad. That’s what I want to do for my birthday. A lot of my boys said I won’t do that, but you will see,” 9ice declared.
Born in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, 9ice has long been celebrated for his distinct Yoruba lyrical prowess, proverbial wordplay, and cultural storytelling. His breakout single, Gongo Aso, released in 2008, catapulted him to nationwide fame and cemented his place as a key voice in Nigerian indigenous music.
In a recent interview with Nancy Isime (August 2025), 9ice revealed his devotion to traditional worship, recounting how a “spiritual attack” that left him vomiting blood for six months led him to an Ifa priest. After receiving healing, he said he regretted not embracing traditional faith earlier.
With his upcoming milestone birthday, 9ice seems determined to reaffirm his roots, identity, and respect for his lineage — a move that has already sparked widespread reactions among fans online.
