The Rivers State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the reported renovation of Abuloma Police Outpost by suspected cultists and relieved two officers of their duties pending the outcome of the probe.
The command announced the action in a statement issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026, following reports and a video circulating on social media about the renovation.
It said the video allegedly showed suspected cultists visiting the outpost to celebrate the completion of the work.
The command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the affected outpost.
Police investigate renovation
The investigation will identify the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the renovation. It will also determine which officers authorised the project and whether they followed the required procedures.
In addition, investigators will examine whether any police personnel breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the force.
The command said it would take disciplinary and legal action against anyone found culpable.
However, it acknowledged that communities could support the improvement of police facilities under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020.
The provision allows gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund. Nevertheless, the command said such support must not undermine police independence, security or professional standards.
It added that donations would not exempt anyone from investigation or prosecution.
Command urges public to share information
The police command reiterated its commitment to tackling cultism and organised crime. It also urged officers to maintain discipline, integrity and accountability.
Meanwhile, the command appealed to residents to remain calm and provide credible information to support security operations across Rivers State.
