The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports of a disagreement between its chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The party said Rivers APC denies Wike rift reports, explaining that Okocha missed the recent unveiling of the Rainbow Coalition’s endorsed candidates for the 2027 general elections because of ill health and medical treatment overseas.
In a statement issued on Saturday, APC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, said Okocha secured approval from Wike and other party leaders before travelling for treatment.
Ikenga said the medical trip coincided with the coalition’s unveiling ceremony. He described reports of a disagreement between both leaders as false. He also accused political opponents of spreading misinformation to undermine the party and the Rainbow Coalition.
The publicity secretary said Okocha would reunite with the party’s leadership and coalition members when he returns.
Meanwhile, the Rivers APC reaffirmed its commitment to the Rainbow Coalition. It described the alliance as a platform for political partnership, inclusion, power-sharing and credible elections.
The party urged members and supporters to ignore reports of a rift between Okocha and Wike.
It also pledged to work with other coalition members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC said its political alliance would support President Bola Tinubu, the coalition-endorsed governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, and candidates contesting National and State Assembly seats.
