Manchester City suffered their second consecutive Premier League defeat after Brighton and Hove Albion secured a tense 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Yasin Ayari scored the only goal in the 11th minute to help Brighton return to winning ways. The result also marked the club’s first-ever victory at the home of the eight-time Premier League champions.

City had already lost 2-1 to Aston Villa last week. Despite another setback, they remain top of the Premier League table with 21 points from nine matches.

However, their position could change when Arsenal, who also have 21 points, travel to face Liverpool on Sunday. A win would take Arsenal above City in the standings.

Brighton have also strengthened their position with the victory. They now sit third, just two points behind both City and Arsenal.

The result gives Brighton an important boost, while City face further pressure after dropping points in back-to-back league matches.
