A housewife named Maryam Ibrahim has been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command for reportedly killing her co-wife, Hafsat Ibrahim, at Gar Village in the state’s Pali Ward region.
Tuesday, November 22, saw the 20-year-old suspect’s arrest as a result of a tip from her 40-year-old husband, Ibrahim Sambo.
He reported the incident to the Maina-Majil Police Station, saying that on the same day at around 1200 hours, his second wife, Maryam Ibrahim, entered his first wife’s room armed with a mortar. Hafsat Ibrahim, 32, struck the victim on the head with the pestle, causing serious degree of injury.
After being taken to a primary healthcare facility in Gar village, the medical doctor there declared her dead.
This was confirmed by Ahmed Wakil, the command’s spokeswoman, who said in a statement on November 28: “During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime.
