Governor of River State Nyesom Wike has stated that an alleged plot within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to punish him for insisting on equity and fairness in the party will result in the party losing the presidential election.
Wike said at a Rivers PDP campaign rally in Mogho Town for Gokana Local Government Area on Wednesday that his insistence on equity, fairness, and justice within the party has become a political crime for which the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is allegedly preparing to punish him.
Governor Wike dismissed perceived threats to deal with him as laughable, claiming that those threatening would never win elections and thus would not have the opportunity to carry out their threats.
Wike, apparently referring to Atiku and the party’s National Chairman, Iyorcha Ayu, said, “Most of you have watched on YouTube where they said they will deal with me when they win. You’re not going to win.
“You haven’t won, but you’re threatening to deal with some people. Will God let you? They haven’t been born yet, but they’ve been planning and saying they’ll deal with us. Let them try it, I dare them.”
He stated that the 2023 election would be about the use of PVCs, or people’s power, and would not be similar to the 2019 election, in which officers of the Nigerian Army and police were allegedly used to intimidate voters.
Sir Siminialayi Fubara, the PDP’s Rivers Governorship candidate, stated at the rally that the party would win the election, but that the victory would have to be convincing.
Fubara promised that if elected, his administration would follow in the footsteps of Wike’s, doing everything possible to maintain the security of life and property, as well as providing more roads and educational infrastructure in the area.
