On Wednesday, February 15, a Kaduna State High Court sentenced Olanrewaju Temitope to five years in prison for internet fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission filed a one-count accusation against the defendant that included elements of cybercrime in it.
Temitope pleaded guilty to the charge, and as a result, was found guilty by Justice A.A. Bello, according to EFCC Spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren’s statement released in Abuja.
The accusation reads: “That you, Olanrewaju Temitope ‘M,’ dishonestly enticed one Elexis McCrills on Instagram to provide to you the sum of $400 somewhere between January, 2022, and July, 2022 in Kaduna, inside the Judicial Division of this Honorable Court.
You violated Section 308 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017, and were subject to punishment under Section 309 of the same Law when you misrepresented yourself as Lisa Marie Boothe (a female whom you knew you were not).
