-Borno governor reaffirms loyalty to APC, slams political detractors
-Insists false claims aim to distract ongoing development efforts
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has dismissed reports suggesting that he plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the claims as politically driven falsehoods.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, the governor condemned the rumour, which made rounds on several online platforms, as a calculated attempt to stir political tension and mislead the public.
“We have become aware of a fictitious and mischievous social media report circulating in certain quarters, alleging plans by me to decamp from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, alongside five other governors,” the statement read.
Governor Zulum described the story as a fabrication designed by individuals he referred to as political detractors, insisting they have no meaningful contributions to the progress of Borno State or Nigeria.
“This is entirely false and exists only in the imagination of its sponsors,” he said. “It is a classic example of cheap, politically motivated speculation designed solely to distract us.”
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and his dedication to the development of Borno State.
“My loyalty to the APC remains firm, and my dedication is solely to the welfare and progress of Borno State. We have no time for cheap politics; our hands are full with the noble task of rebuilding and developing our dear state,” Zulum stated.
The governor urged media houses and members of the public to rely on verified, credible sources rather than politically motivated propaganda. He warned that disinformation poses a threat not only to public trust but also to the momentum of development in the state.
“Our focus remains clear — to restore peace, drive reconstruction, and secure a better future for our people,” he added.
The statement comes at a time when political realignments ahead of future elections are sparking speculations nationwide.
