The Federal Government has honoured Nigerian students who emerged global champions at the 2025 TeenEagle English Competition in London, with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presenting cash prizes to the winners for bringing glory to the nation.

Seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu from Yobe State stole the spotlight as she was crowned the world’s best in English Language Skills, receiving a cheque of ₦200,000. Other outstanding students received between ₦100,000 and ₦150,000 for their excellent performance in debate, spelling bee, productive skills, and talent presentation.

Speaking at the award ceremony in Abuja, Dr. Alausa praised the students for their brilliance and resilience, stressing that their success has firmly placed Nigeria on the global map of academic excellence.

“We are proud of what our children have achieved. This victory proves that with the right support, Nigerian students can compete with the best in the world,” he said.

The minister commended Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for revamping the state’s education system despite years of insurgency, urging other governors to replicate similar commitment to education.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Swaiba Said Ahmad, described the victory as a national triumph that reflects the creativity and intelligence of Nigerian youths. She said the success aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to reposition education for excellence.

“Your success is a victory for Nigeria. We want you to see this recognition as the beginning of greater possibilities and a source of inspiration for your peers,” she told the winners.

Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Abba Adam, noted that the achievement was proof that investments in school infrastructure, teacher recruitment, school feeding, and scholarships were yielding positive results.

In her remarks, Nafisa expressed gratitude to her parents, teachers, and the government for their support. She also unveiled her initiative, English Language for Peace and Development, a project aimed at promoting literacy, dialogue, and social cohesion among young people.
