Nigeria’s crude oil output slipped in August following an unscheduled refinery maintenance that briefly disrupted production, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has revealed.
The Commission’s latest report, released on Saturday, showed that combined crude oil and condensate production fell 4.7 per cent month-on-month to 1.63 million barrels per day (bpd) in August, down from 1.71 million bpd recorded in July. Crude oil alone declined by 4.8 per cent, sliding from 1.5 million bpd in July to 1.43 million bpd in August.
“The month-on-month drop was driven by a single-day unscheduled maintenance at an oil facility,” NUPRC explained in its Crude Oil and Condensate Production Report. Despite the dip, the country’s output rose 5.5 per cent year-on-year, compared to 1.58 million bpd in August 2024.
The report also highlighted that daily condensate production averaged 197,229 bpd, marking a decline, while overall production still met 96 per cent of Nigeria’s OPEC quota of 1.5 million bpd. Forcados Terminal led the month’s output with 8.99 million barrels, comprising 8.08 million barrels of crude oil and 915,200 barrels of condensates.
