The Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary and suspended all legislative activities in honour of Senator Okey Ezea, who passed away on Tuesday in Lagos.

Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District on the platform of the Labour Party, died at the age of 61. Born on August 11, 1963, he was a lawyer, businessman, and first-term senator elected during the 2023 general elections.

Until his death, the late lawmaker served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, as well as the Senate Committee on Culture and Creative Economy. Senate leaders described him as a committed legislator who contributed significantly to national unity, development, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The Red Chamber observed a minute’s silence in his honour and resolved to pay a condolence visit to his family. Lawmakers also agreed to hold a valedictory session in recognition of his service to the nation.

The Senate thereafter adjourned plenary in line with its tradition of mourning a departed colleague.
