Fresh political intrigue has gripped Nigeria’s evolving 2027 landscape as a close associate of Peter Obi, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, declared that former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has agreed to serve as Obi’s running mate in the next presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Abdulkarim asserted that both camps have sealed an understanding, signalling a major realignment ahead of 2027.
“I can categorically tell you that they have agreed,” he said, adding that supporters within the Obidient and Kwankwassiyya movements are already aware of the arrangement.
According to him, the two influential political blocs are actively converging, strengthening speculations of a formidable joint ticket that could reshape the country’s electoral dynamics.
The development follows Kwankwaso’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that has intensified talks of a strategic alliance.
Political observers believe the shift signals more than a routine party switch, pointing instead to a calculated effort to consolidate opposition forces under a single platform.
If confirmed, an Obi–Kwankwaso ticket could redraw the balance of power, merging grassroots enthusiasm with established northern political influence—an equation that may prove decisive in the 2027 presidential contest.
