The Nigerian Correctional Service has dismissed claims that guards robbed an inmate of valuables worth over ₦120 million. Officials rejected the reports regarding the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, calling the allegations completely false and misleading.

According to a statement from prison spokesperson JN Osuji, officers merely conducted a routine security search at the facility. This prison security report confirms that guards safely documented all confiscated contraband. The agency stated: “What took place at the Custodial Centre in Kuje was a routine security search carried out within the facility and all recovered prohibited items were duly processed and documented.”

The authorities clarified that inmates cannot hold expensive personal items or large sums of cash. Staff record legitimate belongings during admission and return them upon release. However, this latest prison security report shows no record of the inmate ever declaring these expensive valuables. The statement noted: “Available records from the custodial centre do not indicate that the items mentioned in the reports were declared by the inmate(s) upon admission.”

Furthermore, the prison service revealed that no inmate has filed a complaint about stolen property. They stated: “As at the time of this statement, no formal or informal complaint of theft or loss relating to the alleged items has been lodged by the said inmate, or any other inmate, or persons in the Centre.”

Bosses urged the public and journalists to stop spreading unverified stories that damage trust in public institutions. This official prison security report assures citizens that the Kuje facility remains peaceful, calm, and fully secure, while the service continues to focus on inmate welfare and professional transparency.
