By Babatunji Wusu| Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered a restriction on motorcycle operations across the state between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. as part of measures aimed at strengthening security and tackling criminal activities.
The governor announced the directive through an Executive Order issued on Friday, stressing that his administration remains committed to securing the release of the abducted teachers and schoolchildren currently being held by kidnappers.
According to Makinde, the decision forms part of broader efforts to address security concerns and improve public safety across the state. He noted that the pain of the victims’ families continues to weigh heavily on the government and residents.
The motorcycle operation restriction comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to rescue those abducted and prevent further incidents of insecurity in affected communities.
Makinde assured residents that intensive operations are continuing behind the scenes to secure the victims’ freedom, adding that their safe return remains a top priority for his administration.
“We may not be able to disclose every step being taken because of the sensitive nature of the operations involved, but I ask our people not to mistake our silence for inaction. A great deal of work is being done behind the scenes,” he said.
The governor emphasised that the kidnapped teachers and schoolchildren have not been forgotten or abandoned, assuring citizens that security agencies are working around the clock to achieve a positive outcome.
He reiterated that every day the victims remain in captivity is a painful experience for their families and the entire state, underscoring the urgency of ongoing rescue efforts.
The motorcycle operation restriction is expected to support security operations by limiting the movement of criminals who often use motorcycles to evade detection, especially during late-night hours.
