…Suspect Confesses to Over 13 Successful Robbery Operations Along Abuja Axis
A carefully planned police operation has led to the arrest of a suspected armed robber terrorising residents around the National Hospital axis and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Following a series of reports of motorcycle-assisted robberies where criminals operate with a rider and a passenger armed with dangerous weapons to attack unsuspecting pedestrians, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Central Police Station, CSP Abdullahi Hassan, devised a strategic sting operation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
On Sunday, 21st June, 2026, CSP Hassan deployed a female police officer as bait, alongside plain-clothed operatives positioned discreetly around the National Hospital junction. The objective was to lure the criminals into an attempted attack and swiftly move in for an arrest.
After over 30 minutes of waiting, the suspected gang appeared exactly as anticipated. A motorcycle carrying two occupants pulled up beside the female officer. The passenger, armed with a knife, allegedly threatened her and demanded her handbag and phone, warning that she would be stabbed if she resisted.
Maintaining her composure, the officer handed over the items as the suspects sped away, unaware that they had fallen into a carefully arranged trap.
CSP Hassan and his team, following closely in a decoy vehicle, immediately launched a hot pursuit. The chase continued towards the National Stadium axis, where the suspects were eventually forced off the road into a ditch after a tactical manoeuvre by the police vehicle.
The suspects abandoned the motorcycle and attempted to escape on foot. While the rider managed to flee into the surrounding bush, the passenger was apprehended by the pursuing officers.
Items recovered from the suspect include a knife, three mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from victims, and the operational motorcycle.
During interrogation, the suspect, identified as Yahuza Sanni from Bauchi State, reportedly confessed to being part of the gang responsible for a series of robbery attacks along the axis, admitting to over 13 successful operations before his arrest.
The police have commenced further investigations to track down other members of the gang and bring all those involved to justice.
The arrest underscores the commitment of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents across the Federation.
