Osun governorship election: Police chief vows neutrality and warns offenders

Osun governorship election security has been tightened as Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu assured voters that officers would remain neutral before, during and after the 15 August poll.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Mr Disu said the Nigeria Police Force had deployed personnel and equipment across Osun State. Intelligence gathering has also increased to detect possible threats.

The police chief warned that officers would arrest anyone involved in vote-buying, voter intimidation, ballot box snatching or thuggery.

He said the force had “no candidate, no political party and no vested interest” in the Osun governorship election.

Mr Disu urged candidates and supporters to reject violence. He also encouraged residents to vote freely, saying the Osun governorship election should reflect the lawful choice of voters.
