The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunshine, cloudy skies and thunderstorms across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
NiMet’s weather forecast shows sunny skies with patches of cloud across the northern region on Monday. Morning thunderstorms with moderate rain may affect parts of Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna, while Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano and other northern areas could see rain later in the day.
In the North Central, parts of Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory may experience morning thunderstorms. Later, similar conditions could spread across parts of Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT.
Southern states including Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa may receive moderate morning rain, with thunderstorms expected across the region later. The NiMet weather forecast for Tuesday also points to thunderstorms in several northern states, including Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba.
The agency expects more thunderstorms across the North Central on Tuesday, while parts of the South could receive light morning rain before moderate thunderstorms later.
On Wednesday, partly cloudy skies may cover the northern region, with light morning rain possible in parts of Bauchi, Jigawa and Yobe. The NiMet weather forecast also indicates thunderstorms across the region later. The North Central may see sunshine and cloud before thunderstorms, while the South could experience cloudy conditions and light rain before later storms.
NiMet urged residents to secure loose objects because strong winds may precede thunderstorms. It also warned that persistent coastal rainfall could trigger flash floods.
“Drivers should avoid driving or wading through floodwaters. Avoid driving in heavy rain.
“Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees,” it advised.
The agency also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and encouraged residents to follow its updates.
