KANO — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday rushed to Singer Market in Kano metropolis after a second fire outbreak tore through the Gidan Gilas section of the bustling commercial hub, heightening fears among traders and residents.
The governor arrived at the scene while flames were still raging, assessing the damage and directing emergency responders battling the inferno.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf urged the Federal Government to immediately provide modern firefighting equipment to strengthen the state’s emergency response capacity.
“We are calling on the Federal Government to urgently intervene by providing modern firefighting equipment, including air support and other essential tools, to help contain the fire and prevent future occurrences,” the governor said.
He stressed that equipping fire services with advanced tools would significantly improve response time and efficiency, particularly in major commercial centres like Singer Market.
“This kind of support will greatly enhance our ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies in key commercial centres like Singer Market,” he added.
Yusuf also applauded the Kano State Fire Service and security agencies for their courage and resilience in confronting the blaze.
“I commend the Kano State Fire Service and all security agencies involved for their dedication and courage in tackling this incident,” the governor stated.
He further appealed to traders and residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with emergency responders as authorities work to bring the situation under control and prevent further losses.
The latest incident marks the second fire outbreak at the Gidan Gilas section of Singer Market, intensifying concerns over fire safety infrastructure in one of Kano’s busiest trading hubs.
