Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared that faith, popular support and the performance of his administration will secure his re-election at the forthcoming governorship poll.
Adeleke spoke on Monday at a New Year interfaith prayer session held at the State Secretariat, where labour leaders, religious figures and public servants gathered to usher in the year.
The governor said his administration had weathered intense political and economic pressures over the past three years and would overcome any challenges ahead of the election. He attributed the survival and continuity of his government to what he described as divine backing and resilience.
According to him, his emergence and sustained hold on power reflect “divine grace” at work in Osun’s political affairs.
Adeleke said his government had consistently prevailed over obstacles that once appeared insurmountable, insisting that the same grace would carry him through the re-election contest.
He maintained that his administration had remained focused on people-centred governance, stressing that policies implemented since his inauguration had delivered visible results across key sectors of the state.
The governor listed interventions for senior citizens, social support for the poor and vulnerable, rehabilitation of critical roads and bridges, empowerment programmes for artisans, and reforms in education and healthcare as major achievements of his government.
He also said his administration was steadily clearing inherited salary and pension arrears, despite doubts expressed by political opponents.
Adeleke noted that half-salary payments and pension backlogs, once described as impossible to resolve, were now being addressed, adding that his government had prioritised fiscal discipline and ensured that state resources worked for the benefit of Osun residents while improving the investment climate.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, openly declared labour’s support for Adeleke’s second-term bid. He said workers across the state would vote en masse for the governor in the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
Religious leaders at the event also offered prayers and goodwill messages.
The Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animasaun, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Osun State, Dr John Adeleke, commended the governor’s public expression of faith and prayed for divine guidance to help him address the state’s challenges and secure re-election.
