The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akwa Ibom North-West in the 2023 election, Godswill Akpabio, the former minister of Niger Delta affairs, says he intends to file a petition with the Supreme Court to seek redress over the Appeal Court’s decision to invalidate that election.
This was said in a statement made by Akpabio, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, on Tuesday in Uyo.
“I’ve been made aware of the Court of Appeal’s Abuja Division judgment ordering INEC to strike my name from the list of APC senatorial candidates for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District in the 2023 election.
“It is instructive to note that orders were issued against me and my interest notwithstanding the fact that I was not a party to the aforementioned appeal.
“It is crucial to note that I am a lawyer by training and a law-abiding citizen of this country, and I am bound by our laws and judgments issued by our courts, including the one in question. I am expecting a copy of the said judgment to be made accessible to me and any other interested person.
“On my instruction and advice, my attorneys have started reviewing the judgment’s text in order to pursue the proper legal remedies.
I understand that the Nigerian Supreme Court has the final say in these issues, he remarked.
As they continue their efforts for the triumphs of the APC in Akwa Ibom North West, Akwa Ibom, and Nigeria at large, I highly ask my supporters, APC members, and all of my people to maintain calm and follow the law. (NAN)
