Authorities in Akwa Ibom State have taken a man into custody following a violent physical attack on a female tenant in the Abak Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Akong Henry, allegedly assaulted the victim, a 31-year-old woman named Rachael, after she reportedly rejected his unwanted romantic advances. The disturbing incident has drawn sharp condemnation from local law enforcement, highlighting the ongoing struggle against domestic and gender-based violence within residential settings.

According to a formal statement released on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, by the Command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, the victim suffered harrowing injuries during the encounter. Rachael visited the police station on the evening of March 31 to report that her landlord had attacked her during a heated disagreement. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect utilized a sharp object during the altercation, leaving the victim with deep wounds to her head and left arm. The severity of the assault led to significant blood loss, requiring immediate emergency intervention.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command acted swiftly upon receiving the report, ensuring the victim was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. She is currently stable but remains under medical observation. Following the rescue, police operatives successfully tracked down and apprehended Akong Henry, who is now facing a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Law enforcement officials have used this case to remind the public that resorting to violence to settle personal grievances is a criminal offense. The Command urged citizens to utilize appropriate legal channels and peaceful mediation to resolve disputes rather than engaging in acts that cause serious bodily harm. As the legal process begins, the community remains watchful, hoping for swift justice for the survivor.
