The Anambra police peace campaign has intensified as the state police command steps up preparations for peaceful political activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, is attending the 2026 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026) in Owerri, Imo State.
The conference, which runs from 21 to 23 September, focuses on developing a Nigeria Police roadmap for managing security during elections.
According to the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the meeting aims to improve police preparedness, coordination and professionalism during electoral activities.
Meanwhile, CP Oji Ama has ordered wider peace advocacy and public sensitisation across Anambra State.
The command recently joined a Peace Advocacy Walk in Awka to mark the 2026 International Day of Peace.
Police officers and other stakeholders walked from Eke-Awka Roundabout while promoting peaceful coexistence, tolerance, responsible citizenship and non-violence.
The Anambra police peace campaign will also target political stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, young people and civil society organisations.
The police said these engagements would encourage stakeholders to reject violence, intimidation and hate speech.
They will also address the destruction of property and other actions that could threaten public safety before, during and after elections.
The Commissioner of Police said the command would maintain professionalism and impartiality while protecting the rights and safety of residents.
He also warned that the police would enforce the law against anyone who commits a crime, regardless of their political affiliation or social status.
The command has urged political actors and other stakeholders to respect the rule of law and support peaceful political participation.
It said cooperation among security agencies, communities and political groups would remain important as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
The Anambra police peace campaign therefore places greater emphasis on dialogue, public awareness and early intervention as the state prepares for another election cycle.
