Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has formally declined his recent appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BoA), just days after it was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a letter addressed to President Tinubu and dated July 21, 2025, Babangida expressed gratitude for the opportunity but cited “a convergence of personal and professional considerations” as his reason for turning down the offer.
“This decision was not made lightly,” the letter read. “It stems from a convergence of personal and professional considerations which, at this time, would not allow me to serve with the level of focus and commitment the position rightly demands.”
Residing in Maitama, Abuja, Babangida affirmed his support for the President’s vision and pledged to contribute to national development in other ways.
“I remain fully committed to the vision of a prosperous and self-sufficient Nigeria under your leadership… and stand ready to support national development in other ways where my expertise may be of service,” he added.
The withdrawal may prompt fresh consultations within the Presidency as the administration seeks a capable replacement to steer the Bank of Agriculture, a vital institution in Nigeria’s quest for food security and rural development.
President Tinubu has in recent weeks made a series of strategic appointments across various sectors in a bid to revamp underperforming agencies and drive national growth.
